Students of all ages and abilities can learn Aikido, the powerful Japanese martial art of peace. Study with the city's most experienced aikido instructors. The not-for-profit Chicago Aikikai was the first Aikido dojo (school) in the Midwest, and it's among the oldest in the country. We offer 30 classes a week with low monthly dues.

All classes will cover breathing techniques, body postures and a session of relaxation/meditation. Body postures will include poses for flexibility, poses for strength and poses for balance. All techniques will have modifications for those suffering from an injury or ailment. Yoga has many noted benefits for all ages and fitness levels! Kokikai Aikido is a self-defense art that uses throws to defend against striking and grabbing attacks. One moves out of the way of an attack and simultaneously uses the attacker's momentum to unbalance and redirect the attacker into a throw. In other words, we neutralize an attack using timing, evasion, and redirection instead of great physical strength.
