Founded in the late 1990's by a small group of students of historically based swordsmanship, the Chicago Swordplay Guild offers introductory classes in Italian medieval longsword at four locations in the city and suburbs and in Italian Renaissance rapier at two of those locations. All techniques are drawn from period manuscripts dating back to the early 15th century. All equipment is provided, and no experience in fencing or martial arts is required.
Windy City Fencing offers beginning and competitive fencing instruction for youth and adults. Head Coach and owner Tsanko Hantov has been coaching fencing for more than a decade, and he competed in the 2000 Olympics and won a bronze medal in the 2001 World Championships in Modern Pentathlon. Windy City is the largest fencing club in Chicago, with more than 60 youth fencers.
